I'm a father of two fantastic kids, in a stable relationship, with loads of family support, a great (really great) Church community who would do anything for me or the kids - and still, once or twice a week, I want to sell my kids on ebay.

Maybe we could start by admitting that (as Pat said) it's hard being a parent...

Julie,
It seems that your take on this story is similar to mine. I think this story speaks to the total lack of support systems in most people's lives.
We were simply not created to go it alone through life...

I've heard this story several times in the news ... it's appalling that someone would abandon a child in this way. If I recall, most have been teens, which may say something about the kind of support these parents might need. Problems that they managed to muddle through take on a different aspect in adolescence -- and the culture around us tells us that kids that age are supposed to be unmanageable, out of control, etc. No wonder parents throw up their hands and give up.

I don't know what role the church can play, except that it's probably got to be a proactive one of seeking out the kids and families that are heading for this level of trouble.
